The Shorts + Reels Pipeline is a set of Python scripts that turns long-form source video into platform-ready short-form clips. Given a sermon recording, a product demo, or a raw talking-head video, the pipeline handles detection of highlight segments, trimming to 30–60 seconds, cropping to vertical aspect ratio, running Whisper for speech-to-text, and burning the resulting SRT subtitles directly into the output.
The main scripts live in the pipeline directory: make_shorts.py takes a source file and a set of trim points, applies ffmpeg cuts with crossfade transitions, runs Whisper on each segment, and renders the final clip with hard-coded subtitles styled to be readable on a phone screen. make_full_source_shorts.py handles the batch case — splitting a long video into every viable short segment based on silence detection and shot boundaries.
I built this for the TLWC sermon library (long recordings that needed to become weekly 60-second sermon clips) and for Tita Maricar’s daily food content. The output is an edited_shorts/ folder with ready-to-upload MP4 files and matching edited_subtitles/ with the raw SRT files. No video editor needed, no timeline-wrestling.
